Rev. Fr. Prof. Dokun Oyeshola, OP/ Acting Vice Chancellor

Professor Dokun Oyeshola was formerly teaching in the Department of International Relations, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife but currently teaching in Dominican University, Samonda, Ibadan.

Professor Dokun Oyeshola holds a Ph.D. in Peace Studies from Bradford University, Bradford (UK). Since he joined academics, he successfully supervised 4 Ph. D, 24 M. Sc., 50 MIR (Professional Master) and 14 PGDIR students coming to a total of 92 postgraduate students in the Department of International Relations, OAU, Ile-Ife where he rose from the ranks to become a Professor of International Relations in 2011. He was university external examiner in the following departments: International Law, English, Religious Studies, Political Science, Public Administration and International Relations. Similarly, he was an external examiner outside the University. In addition, he was on fellowship at University of Sussex, Brighton, 1996-98 and on sabbatical at the University of Ado-Ekiti, Ado-Ekiti, 2008 and Veritas University, Abuja, 2011. Professor Oyeshola has successfully assessed four colleagues for Associate Professorship and one for Professorial. One of his supervisees is a professor and two as Associate Professors. He was Acting HOD and Chief Examiner Department of International Relations 1 February 2009 to 31 July 2011.

Professor Dokun has contributed to local, national and international journals. There are 7 books, 3 monographs, over 35 journal publications to his credit. Three of the books are republished through Amazon online publication. They are:

Professor Dokun Oyeshola benefited from Scholarship Award of the Austrian Government in respect of the Foundation Course and Specialization Course on Election Observation and Assistance. February 22 - March 21, 1998, Stadtschlaining, Austria.

Professor Dokun served at various capacities in the University as

  3. A member of Faculty Review Panel, 2005/6, 2008 -2011

  5. A member of the Editorial Board (Editor) Quarterly Journal of Administration of the Faculty 2013 – 2018.
  6. A member of the Faculty Review 2016 – 2021.
  7. A member of the Senate.
  8. Chairperson of The Congregation Committee on the Sustainability of OAU Staff School and the Resolution of the Union Crisis, 31 August, 2018. The crisis was successfully resolved.
  9. Representative of Senate on the Joint Committee of Council and Senate to consider the recommendations for determination of appointment on allegation of gross misconduct of two members of staff (12 July 2021). The appointment of one was upheld while the later was terminated.

 

Professor Oyeshola also served as a

  1. Member of the University Religious Harmony Committee, 2001-2005.
  2. Counsellor to both students and staff and undertook religious services inclusive of marriage and burial ceremonies in community.

 

Professor Dokun, a Catholic priest is not only a Social Scientist he is committed to ecclesiastical responsibilities. In this capacity he had work experience as

Professor Oyeshola’s teaching is students’ centred with pedagogical nuances of formal research papers and projects, reviews of books, active participation of students in seminars and lectures and written examinations. With a dynamic classroom environment, receptivity to the questions and contributions of students, creation of academic requirement that demands critical thinking and research and not mere memorization he has impacted on students. Through teaching, taking students on field trip, discussion methods, publications, discourse at various academic levels and fora, being an external and internal examiner and having established an Endowment of Prize for Best Graduating Student in IRS 413: Technology, Science and the Environment in World Affairs at OAU he has encouraged learning, impacted on knowledge and made contribution to scholarship. Professor Oyeshola’s area of specialisation includes Environmental Politics, Conflict and Peace Studies, International Institutions, International Economic Relations and Politics of Development. Professor Dokun Oyeshola is a catholic priest and a Dominican (Order of Preachers).
